Staring Evil in the Facebook

It’s taken me quite a while to give in to Facebook, and call me paranoid but now that I finally have, I’m using a separate computer with a masked IP. I don’t want to take any chances. So far it’s interesting, and it’s good to see I’m not the only one who’s a little concerned about it being monitored. This is from a discussion in a group about the Illuminati:

I would just like to say that in late January on CNN,Glennbeck had a show where he was discussing the patriot act and the new plans to expand it...the new Super Snook law...to monitor all computer use and have thier computers in Washington programmed to pick up key words, phrases and groups. Thus they will kick in when they pick up these notable subjects. In particular they said Facebook and Myspace were of big concern due to the fact(lies) that al-queda is using them to build terrorist cells. What they really mean is people are starting to wake up and learn of thier evil scams and plans for us... I saw a post on here by a young lady that made a good point about the 'i'll bet i can find 1,000,000 people who don't like George Bush" of which I am a member. Of course they are monitoring those type groups. ...Anytime the word illuminati, freemasons, weavers, new world order, tri-laterist,council on foriegn relations..ect.ect. are mentioned..they are monitoring. I look at them as my enemy...Shit is about to hit the fan,big time.Brace yourselves for the ride. Not much else you can do.But whatever you do..don't take the implant. No matter what. No food,No job,No home...it's not going to matter for long.Just be prepared. They have it all planned out.... feel free to message me. peace

This might sound a bit out there, but when you think about it, facebook has a larger population than Great Britain, of course it’s going to be of interest to the powers that be. And of course they’re going to be watching what is said, especially as it’s so easy to do so. We’ve never been so easily controlled as when we’re all in one place and everything we say and do is recorded.

Big Foot On Mars!

This has stirred a lot of controversy and press. No surprise as it combines two great mysteries: "Is there life on Mars?" and "Does BigFoot exist?". To that I'd add a third question: "If yes, how the f*** did he get to Mars?". Simulacrum mysteries are almost as old as the Internet, but this one is a lot of fun, mainly down to the hi-resolution of the pictures. Have a look for yourself and judge...

2012 2012 2012

The Daily Grail has a great summary of the relevance of 2012 and why you should care. Link.

• December 21 - End of the great cycle of the Maya calendar's Long Count and a 26,000 year planetary cycle in the Aztec calendar, and thus the alleged end of our world (the end of the cycle is dated December 22 or December 23 by some calculations).
• According to the 1997 book The Bible Code the world will end due to a collision with a meteor, asteroid or comet.
• Interpreted by Millennialism as a time when there will be an evolutionary change in human consciousness brought about by a series of world changing events or revelations. Following this period of upheaval they believe we will begin a new 1,000 year cycle in which peace, enlightenment and our environmental movement take priority.
• The Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide, according to "The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge" by Richard C. Duncan.
• Terence McKenna's Novelty Theory claims that time is a fractal wave of increasing novelty that ends abruptly in 2012.
• Tibetan Monks specialising in remote viewing predict that divine extra-terrestrials will intervene at a point where the world's governments are about to deploy weapons of mass destruction. Adding to this, the Tibetan Monks say that the world is not ready to be destroyed and that our Earth is blessed and being saved continuously from all kinds of hazards that Mankind is not even aware of.

Storm Worm Botnet Attacks Anti-Spam Firms

"It's been a pretty constant battle to stay online," Vincent Hanna, an investigator for the non-profit Spamhaus Project, told InformationWeek. "It's an arms race. They try something. We block it. They try something else. We block it. It goes on and on. Sometimes it's fine and sometimes we spend hours a day on this." Link.

Storm Worm Spams Its Own Bots

When Botnets Go Wild. Link.

Corman said the Storm Worm is an "instantiation of a class of botnets" that is being used in attacks such as pump-and-dump campaigns to derive profits for its authors. It communicates through decentralized peer-to-peer networks, which makes it difficult to stop.

If the Storm Worm authors find a way to monetize other uses for the botnet, users may see an influx of DDoS attacks that could paralyze some organizations. Some businesses are preparing for such an incident by reassessing their disaster recovery capabilities, Corman said.

He said he also worries about a political motive: For example, Storm could impact the websites of presidential candidates, or be used to deliver spam that may sway voter's decisions, Corman said.

Storm Worm Botnet now "more powerful than world's top supercomputer"

The Storm Worm Botnet, a massive network of infected Windows PCs spanning the world, has now enslaved enough computers to rival the processing power of top military computers. This is incredible.

"If you calculate pure theoretical throughput, then I'm sure the botnet has more capacity than IBM's BlueGene. If you sat them down to play chess, the botnet would win."

Storm Worm Rising

The Storm Worm is a huge botnet that may have commandeered up to 2 million PCs around the world. You visit a site, download a piece of malware, and unbeknownst to you, your computer becomes just another 'zombie' node in the botnet army. Then the creators use yours and the other computers on the network to launch spam or denial-of-service (DDos) attacks.

As sci-fi writer Sterling himself says,

The Storm worm is an amazing piece of work. Anyone who has taken the time to reverse engineer Storm will tell you that it is a very sophisticated piece of software and it is highly unlikely that it was created just to send spam.

Google to use games to analyse net users

Google have a strict policy of "not being evil". Yet their activities in the snooping / logging / monitoring department constantly push the boundaries. This is a good example: building psychological profiles from the way users play online games. Link.

Experts: Scrap The Internet And Start Again

Just days after plans were announced to launch the Internet in space, this story breaks on completely rebuilding the Internet from the ground up.

"Other government agencies, including the US Defence Department, have also been exploring the concept....A new network could run parallel with the current internet and eventually replace it."

This is an interesting point on why the Internet is increasingly obselete:

"The Internet's designers also assumed that computers were in fixed locations and always connected. That's no longer the case with the proliferation of laptops, personal digital assistants and other mobile devices, all hopping from one wireless access point to another, losing their signals here and there.

Internets In Space!!!

A programme to kick-start the use of internet communications in space has been announced by the US government.
The Department of Defense's Iris project will put an internet router in space by the start of 2009.

Even more sci-fi is this:

"With IP becoming more prevalent for use in space, Nasa and internet pioneer Vint Cerf have also investigated the possibility of using internet technology across the solar system. Although some work has been carried out on the necessary standards and protocols, no definite schedule has been announced for this interplanetary internet. "

UFO Hacker Loses Extradition Battle

British hacker Gary McKinnon who hacked into hundreds of US Military computers looking for secret information on UFOs lost his bid to avoid extradition to the US. The military had described his activity as "the biggest military computer hack of all time", causing $700,000 of damage. The US wanted to send him to Guantamo Bay but the UK government resisted.
